Free things to do in Calgary.

There's not much you can do for free in Calgary or anywhere for that matter. But if you are on a limited budget visitors have found creative ways to enjoy their Calgary experience without spending a dime.

  1. The Pathways: Calgary has over 635 km of pathways with about another 260 km of it on designated roads. Because of the sheer size of its network Calgary's pathways are the most extensive in North America. In the winter, 110 km of the main paths are cleared regularly of snow. The most use path is the one that connects downtown with Edworthy Park.
  2. C-Train: Riding the train within the downtown city limits is free of charge. This will get you to any of the great stores for some downtown shopping. Think of it as a free tour-bus(train) to see Calgary's downtown.
  3. Bow River Float: If you happen to have something to float on riding the Bow river is a great way to spend time. The Bow is shallow but don't be deceived it can take you away so swimming is not recommended. There is also a marked area behind the Calgary Zoo that is a know hazard. Be Careful!
  4. Eau Clair Market: Eau Clair is the most alive part of Calgary at any time of day or night. The market has great shops and is the connecting point between downtown and Prince's Island.
  5. TD Devonian Gardens : This was my favourite spot growing up in Calgary. On the top floor of the TD shopping centre downtown is a tropical garden. The place comes alive with plants and trees of all sorts and a small pond and stream with living coy. Because of its location it is a great spot for people to take their lunch break in nature, anytime of year.
