Cliff Bungalow Real Estate

The communities of Cliff Bungalow and Mission are conveniently located in Calgary’s southwest quadrant close to the downtown core. The Cliff Bungalow and Mission areas have a rich history in Calgary; Cliff Bungalow being annexed in 1907, and Mission annexed in 1900.

Cliff Bungalow is bounded by 4th Street South Weston the east and17th Avenue South West on the north and in the 1870s was owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway, and was subdivided into residential communities between 1906 and 1912. In 1935, the appeal of the neighbourhood was heightened when it was re-zoned to permit the building of apartment blocks. Today, this charming and mature community has a convenient mixture of early 19-hundred character homes, recently built low-rise apartments and condominiums, in addition to magnificent newer infill homes and townhouses. The 4th Street commercial district is within the boundaries of Cliff Bungalow which offers trendy shops and cafés, much to the delight of the residents who can enjoy a chic district within walking distance of their homes.

In 1883, Fathers Lacombe and Leduc homesteaded two quarter sections of land that included the site of present day Mission. A small French speaking community began to build in the area in the late 1880s. In the late 1800’s, Mission was referred to as Rouleauville after two brothers: Chief Justice Charles B. Rouleau and Edourd, who founded the Holy Cross hospital. Later on, beginning with the arrival of an Irish bishop at the local parish, the Francophone community began to be displaced. Its name was changed to Mission after it was annexed to Calgary in 1907.

The Cliff Bungalow - Mission community attempts to guide development of the area, ensuring that it remains low density and restricting the construction of buildings over three stories. The community created the “4th Steet Lilac Festival” which is Calgary’s largest and most popular Street Festival. Cliff Bungalow - Mission is close to numerous restaurants, shopping facilities as well as the Bow River and Lindsay Park.
Schools in the area include the Separate schools of St. Monica Elementary & Junior High School and St. Mary's Senior High School. The Public school in the area is Western Canada Senior High
